What are the kinds of animal oil?
Nearly all animals have some kind of hydro-carbon viscous fluid. Many people have too much oil, but we call it fat because it’s a semi-solid.
Oil from animals has been used for millennia. Sheep excrete an oil onto their hair called “lanolin” and mankind has been using it for years and years. People used to collect bacon fat and cook with it. In the original editions of “The Joy of Cooking” nearly every recipe seems to start out, “Take 4 oz of salt pork. Cook over medium heat until crisp. In the late 1700s, whales were hunted for their oil, as it burned much cleaner than other forms of oil, with no smell of rotten animal that poorer quality oil might leave.
