Organic Virgin Coconut Oil

Studies show that virgin coconut oil has many health-giving properties which far surpasses that of virgin olive oil. The benefits include protection against infections, heart disease, diabetes, and even cancer.  This incredible organic oil is also being used in cosmetics and beauty products.

 

Unfortunately, due to erroneous research, this extremely beneficial oil has been ignored by many. In the 1950′s it has been stated that saturated fats raise cholesterol levels. Coconut oil, though rich in saturated fats has not been proven to cause a higher risk of heart disease. On the contrary, pacific populations where coconut oil is extensively used have a low incidence of heart disease. In fact, coconut oil helps keep bad cholesterol away by stimulating the thyroid. This in turn, results in quick absorption and utilization of cholesterol in the body, instead of getting it going into the blood stream and clogging the arteries.

 

Aside from lowering cholesterol, coconut oil improves the immunity as it contains antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. The fatty acids in coconut oil are the same found in human breast milk, which boosts a newborn’s immune system and protects it from most infections.

 

Virgin coconut oil also protects against diabetes by helping control and utilize blood glucose, and improve the secretion of insulin.

 

Moreover, the chemical composition of this oil is very stable, allowing it to be safely heated to temperatures up to 446°F. Most other cooking oils break down into hazardous cancer-causing compounds when heated at such high temperatures. This stability keeps it from becoming rancid for a long time.

 

Coconut oil is also used in skin and hair care. It is a very effective moisturizer for dry and flaking skin. And it’s antibacterial and antifungal properties helps treat infections like eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis. For hair care, coconut oil is an excellent conditioner giving hair a luxurious shine. It also promotes healthy hair growth and treats/protects against dandruff and lice. Asian countries swear by the powers of coconut oil to thicken and from premature graying.

 

Do not confuse RBD for virgin coconut oil. RBD means refined, bleached and deodorized coconut oil made from copra. RBD coconut oil has been stripped of its beneficial fatty acids during processing to give a longer shelf life. Plain avoid it as it is very high in hydrogenated fats and trans fatty acids.

 

Virgin coconut oil has the most benefits not only for our health, but for the environment as well. Manufacturing this organic oil produces the smallest carbon footprint compared to other cooking oil. There are basically two ways in producing virgin coconut oil. The first method comprises of expressing the milk from the grated coconut flesh and then allowing the oil to rise to the surface, and then extracted. In the second method, the grated coconut meat is dried and then pressed to extract the oil. No or very minimal heat/chemicals are used in the process.

 

Furthermore, coconut trees are abundant in tropical countries providing most poor communities with opportunities to earn a sustainable income.
