Blaine Henrie
Value of 1970′s paintings by now deceased artist.?
I have several oil paintings of a very talented artist who is now deceased. He lived in Laguna Beach in the 1970′s and then moved to (I believe) Carmel, Calif. until his death in the ’90′s.
I am interested in having his art appraised as I would be interested in selling the paintings. I have looked him up on the internet and found information about him but I would like to know how to go about getting an appraisal. I live in the Palm Springs area.
The artist’s name is Paul Blaine Henrie and I knew him personally in the 1970′s. I have one large painting over my living room sofa that is of Catalina (Avalon) Island that was done with a pallet knife. It was done especially for me as I spent many summers as a child on the island and it has always had a special place in my heart. However, if the price is right, I am willing to sell that and several other paintings.
I would say that if you have a special interest in this artist enjoy them yourself for the time being. Back your own judgement and hang onto them. You could see by asking a local gallery how much they are currently worth then add 30% as they have to make a profit. Try again in a couple of years. The pleasure you get from having them on your own wall should be worth it. You’ll kick yourself if in ten years you have parted with them cheaply………… and anyway your family might like to inherit them if they have a special significance for you.
