how to ship a streched canvas cheap?

Im an artist starting to sell my art through ebay. However, I have only sold unstreched canvas which are kind of easy to ship, but now I need to find a way to send big canvases without paying the price for huge boxes. Anyone knows how can this be done? Thanks

A lot depends on the shipping method. There is no way to ship a stretched canvas without using a big box. The box should be at least two inches larger than the canvas on the edges and 1 inch for the face and back. A medium density foam should be used on all four edges and the same foam should be placed in such a way as to prevent the face and back of the canvas from flopping around and from shifting back and forth in the box. The box should be reasonably proof against puncture. I would recommend using 1/4 inch plywood for the face and back and 1/2 inch for the edges. Be sure to build a prototype and find out how much it would cost to ship and include shipping and box material costs in your price. The painting should be wrapped in plastic ( to protect it from exposure to water and humidity extremes) and the paint should be thoroughly dry be fore packing to prevent the paint from sticking to the packing materials. UPS or FedEx are good choices for shipping, they do have size limits so check with them first. My preference is FedEx.
