I have come across no links between tamil martial arts and East Asian martial arts. Don’t be fooled by myths like that of India’s influence on Chinese martial arts, they have been indisputably discarded. Pressure points have always existed on the human body, and have likely been used medicinally for centuries before the development of most of the martial arts we know of today. The use of them in martial arts was a fairly logical step, and happened in many styles in many areas of the world, most likely with no connection at all.
As the Wikipedia page states, there are parallels in Chinese arts, but that is not to say that the two derived from the same source. There are major similarities between pole fighting in Western Europe and far East Asia, but the is likely no connection between the two – there are just only so many things you can do with a pole. Archery is a universal phenomenon but likely did not originate from a single source – rather it was probably developed simultaneously by different tribes.
I am currently studying East Asian history at university, specialising in the development of martial/military arts. Unlike the Wikipedia author, my research draws from one of the best libraries on Asia in the world. There may be some connection between the two pressure point techniques, but there is stronger evidence to the contrary. If there is a connection, there is no way of knowing if the Chinese, the Tamil, or some completely different group first developed it.
