For instance, a professor in a medical program decided to loosen up his students by telling them what he considered a joke. He asked them to decide which word didn’t belong – sex, egg, rug, or woman – then gave the punchline that sex didn’t belong because you can’t beat sex. Even though this isn’t half as bad as some of the things women were putting up with on an everyday basis in the hallway of schools, it is still bad enough to keep women from being respected. The woman says she wants children, so the interviewer tells her she isn’t completely committed to the field.
It has been said that female doctors are much more sensitive than their male counterparts after interviews. This feeling has been called a stereotype against women. One medical student who is a female states to have seen some very insensitive women and likewise some extremely sensitive men in her time, but it was more of a personality trait and less of a biological one.
A dean from a medical school has said that he thinks women have some traits that men don’t possess that would transfer over well into the medical field. Because most women were taught to be caring and open to others, this will make for a good beside manner within the medical field. Even though aggression is mostly associated with negativity, it can also be a positive thing in the right settings.
