Is the ONLY reason the US is helping Haiti because Haitian land has alot of the element that makes aluminum?
That wouldn’t make any sense. They have some Bauxite, as does Jamaica (probably more than the whole US), but not enough to make it worth while. Smelting Aluminum from Bauxite is expensive anywhere you do it because it requires huge amounts of electrical power. Without hydro-power or something cheap, a few dozen Honda generators just ain’t gonna cut it. Even if they could put enough solar power together it would pollute the Caribbean more than you can imagine.
By the way, back when they capped the Washington Monument with it, aluminum cost as much as silver. 2 years later they figured out how to make it much cheaper. See Hall-Héroult process and now it’s the most common thing to dig up with a metal detector!
The best way to get aluminum is recycle what we have already.
