Which character in James Herbert’s book is based on a real person?
In The Secret of Crickley Hall one of the characters is named after someone who won the BBC Children in Need 2004 auction – but who is it?
I was unable to find the name of the person that won the auction. This may be due to that person not wanting it publicised. If it is noted, it might be found on the authors personal page where they thank those that helped with the publishing of the book, as an appreciation for donating to the charity in order to be named in the book.
This is becoming more popular as a fund raising tool for charities. The winning bidder gets a charactor named after them in the authors upcoming book. The charactor is not based on their life, or actions…in fact, the book is usually already completed or near completion and the name of a charactor is changed to that of the winning bidder. It is rarely a major charactor, more often being a minor charactor that the protagonist encounters in their story, like a shop keeper, that is only mentioned one time.
