How can I make a 2 inch vent in my snare drum?
I have a 13×7 Pork Pie Acrylic snare and I want to put a 2 inch vent in the side like this snare http://drums-percussion.musiciansfriend.…
Would I just take all the hardware off and use a circle drill bit or what? Thanks.
You’d have to use a fine-toothed hole saw capable of cutting cleanly through the acrylic shell. Determine where you want the vent, drill a pilot hole in the center of what will be the vent, then use the hole saw attached to an electric drill or a drill press (preferable because of its stability) to cut out the vent. Make certain the drum shell is clamped down somehow that will not allow it to move during the cutting process. After cutting the vent it would be a good idea to use a router to round off the edges around where you cut.
