A Peek at Spain’s Music History and the Beginnings of Flamenco
A lot of people see music and dance to be a very communicative art form although quite different from other art forms like sculpting, painting, architecture and the likes. Music has unique forms, faces, and purposes in many countries and although music may be employed in unique techniques, the fact still remains that it is an important part of cultures all over the world.
Music has an essential contribution in the history of all countries, including Spain; the Roman culture has been its primary influence for hundreds of years and it also paved the way for the introduction of Ancient Greek music. It could be that some of the most influential cultures on Spain’s music are the Roman and Greek cultures; the consequential influences are the Moors, Jews, and German cultures. Much of Spain’s music were shaped by these practices and you can really have a deeper appreciation for this if you will study their language and culture more; you can find internet resources for this on websites such as Rocket Spanish and the likes. Rocket Spanish lessons is an excellent tool that can aid you in learning to speak Spanish.
When one speaks of Spanish music and dance culture, there’s one distinct method that is constantly present and which is often considered as representative of Spanish music and dance; Flamenco is, without a doubt, the most famous dance and music style of Spain. Contrary to popular belief, Flamenco is only known to one of Spain’s regions; it began from Andalusia, an autonomous community in Spain and is seen as the second most massive in terms of land area in the country. The neighboring regions within the area of Andalusia have different music due to the number of countries that really affected Spain’s culture and music.
A popular music that is acquired from Spain is Flamenco, which many people believed to be a popular music in Spain. The Flamenco’s swift, sweeping steps and quick foot work has been borrowed by a number of dance cultures worldwide. The surprising fact is that numerous things is still unanswered about Flamenco as an art form.
It was a difficult period during the early centuries and there are a number of preconceive notions against Gypsies during that time which was believed to make up the poor people in Andalusia and which may have had a big influence in the roots of Flamenco. In fact, the influences of Flamenco is still unsure up to this generation; what is quite obvious and is something most researchers will agree about, is that the music and dance form looks like it has been heavily affected by Gypsy music. Also, Flamenco was mostly danced by the common people or the lower levels of society, and upper class society did not have much interest on it; the historians that time failed to find the vitality in recording such music. Another essential basis in adding to the difficulty in the study of the origin of Flamenco is that majority of the people who performed it were uneducated and did not know how to write so they maintained the music and culture through oral tradition, and to make matters worse they were being persecuted during the Spanish inquisition in 1492.
Historians and other experts up to now are still studying the accurate history and root of Flamenco. So much so that until now, many people is trying to acquire more information and do this musical and dance form all over the world.
