Great Alternatives to Wrapping Paper
It’s common to give and receive presents anytime of the year. So it’s pretty common to wrap up gifts, too. If you are figuring out how to save on wrapping paper or how to help nature, then here are a couple of useful tips for you
Sure, you can reuse old wrapping paper, old paper bags and old gift boxes that you have accumulated for months or years. Just make sure they’re still in great shape. To conceal peeled or torn areas, cover them with cutouts or ribbons. Cut out ragged edges, too, for neat results.
Now, if all the old wrappers, paper bags and gift boxes are gone, then you can proceed to other interesting alternatives. Take for example comic book pages. If these editions aren’t collector’s items, then their colorful, funny and shiny pages will do great wonders as gift wrappers.
Old calendar sheets are great to use as wrappers, as well. Many calendars feature beautiful landscapes, making them perfect to cover your presents to add a sense of surprise. If the pages of the calendar are made from thick paper, try creating mini boxes or tubes out of them to be used for smaller gift items like jewelry, candy, card, etc.
Take out any old map or chart and you now have another fine alternative to wrapping paper. Topographical and geographical maps will be ideal for presents meant for those who like to travel and explore.
Do you have old scarves and shawls? Then do like the Koreans do – they wrap their presents in colorful pieces of cloths and secure them by tying the corners together at the top with the present inside.
Another fun alternative are brown grocery bags. Fix tears by taping or gluing them. Iron out wrinkles for a smooth finish. You can seal in the present by taping or gluing the edges of the bag or by tying it up with a string or ribbon. You may also dab some color onto the bag and dry before using it to wrap your presents.
Even newspaper pages can be used to wrap presents. Just add a pretty finishing touch to the gift by tying a ribbon to make it presentable. You don’t really need to be shy about old stuff used for wrappers because being environment-friendly is hip and cool these days.
Now, if you really like to buy new wrapping paper for your gift, then opt for those made from recycled paper or biodegradable materials.
