How do you sell Original Acrylic Paintings?

I am an artist and am trying to get my work out there, so what do I do to try and sell it? I have tried offices and businesses, I have a website, I have passed out many business cards…….I’ve tried a lot.

So what do I do?

It may be that my work just sucks, but that is not the feedback that I have gotten, most people love them.

P.S. If you want to see my work, my website is www.jessicatarrantgallery.com.

I have tried putting them at all different prices, I have worked deals with many people. But the prices on my website are the highest price I am asking, cuz you can always lower them but you can’t raise them without hearing something about it.

Your website layout looks great and professional, which is definitely good for business! Alot of your artworks have sold which proves that your art is wanted and in demand! Your prices are very reasonable also! You included the size of each painting which is definitely needed but people also want to know the medium and support as well, Example: acrylic on canvas. I read that it takes approximately 6 months to 1 year to see results of your marketing efforts. Hopefully, the following tips will help you:

1. ELECTRONIC COMMERCE (e-commerce, eCommerce) is an extra feature that you can buy from your web host. E-commerce allows you to sell things on your website.

2. If you have your own website address, you can learn “search engine optimization”, which is the process of improving the visibility of a website in search engines. If your website is ranked high in search results, it will more than likely get alot of visitors. Google search the words “search engine optimization” for more information or buy a book on the subject at Amazon website.

3. Buy the book, 2011 Artist’s And Graphic Designer’s Market by Mary Burzlaff Bostic at Amazon website or check out this book’s official website called ArtistsMarketOnline. This book has been in print since 1975 and is considered a complete resource for artists. This book is updated every year to include the current contact and submission information for tons of places, such as greeting card companies, publishers, art fairs, art galleries, and more. It will tell you how and where to sell your artwork.

4. Open an account on YouTube website or Flickr website because these sites get high volumes of traffic everyday! You only need to post a few videos on YouTube and a few artworks on Flickr. The goal is to remain active by posting comments on these sites to get more exposure! If you post comments on other people’s videos or pictures, they will more than likely check out your account as well. You can’t state that you sell artwork because these sites don’t allow commercialism, so simply type your website address under your profile, so people can find your official website.

5. Ask your family/friends to post a picture of your art and a link to your website on their personal website or blog site to get more exposure.

6. Make a small photo book of your art and leave it in lobby/waiting rooms (doctor’s office, hotels, etc.) to get more exposure. Generally, a lobby has magazines there for customers to look at while waiting, so ask the business owner if its ok to leave your photo book in the lobby. Make a book at these websites: Blurb, Lulu Enterprises, CreateSpace.

7. Mail a brief letter introducing yourself and samples of your artwork to all places affiliated with art (art magazines, art museums, art galleries, art supply stores, art schools, art organizations). Also, mail samples to non-art businesses because these could be potential customers that would buy your art, Example: If you paint still life/food, mail flyers to restaurant owners/food corporations. Try to mail your samples to a real person by getting their name or put ATTN: ART DIRECTOR or ATTN: MANAGER. There are tons of business addresses you can find on the internet or you can buy a mailing list. Google search “buy mailing lists”. For only $0.44 per stamp, you can mail 11 flyers every week for only $4.84! At the end of one year (52 weeks), you would have mailed 572 flyers to people!
