Original Haiti

Original Haiti
We Are the World… opinions on the SONG :) ?

Why do you think the original AND the remake of “We are the World” 25 for Haiti were so successful?

What do you think of the song?

What elements of the song stand out to you?

Any other opinions?!
I personally enjoy the song, and think it was a great idea to remake it. It was a way to promote people into helping out with the destructions in Haiti. I also think it was great how they kept Michael Jacksons voice in it. Tons of artists got together, unpaid, to spread the word. And in today’s society, everything revolves around technology and music, so what better way to promote awareness?
If you think “it’s a corporate plug to sell records”, then you’re totally right! However, most of the money is going to relief in Haiti. Singing a song can’t change the world, but it can sure promote change.

I think they are so sucessful because any song with top artists of different genres collaborating together is going to be a hit. And then throw in the fact that they are all coming together for something of importance and if you purchase the song you are helping out.

I thought it was a great Idea and I was glad they did it. I thought they should have done it at MJ’s memorial concert but im glad they waited for something more important. There has been a lot of criticism to this song based on the artists choice and certain elements of the song. I think some of it was amazing and some of it was disgraceful.

I’ll go through disgraceful first. Justin Bieber opens it up. The guy has been famous for like a month and a half. He is a decent singer but opening up a song which originally had artists like MJ,Stevie Wonder Billy Joel, Bruce Sprinstein Tina Turner Ray Charles Lionel Ritchie, Kenny Rogers. It would have been an amazing honor for him to be in the chorus. Trey Songs, Jordin Sparks Keri Hilson all got stuck in the chorus (deservingly)while Justin Bieber got a solo, the opening solo. Miley Cyrus and Nick Jonas did not deserve solos. I thought Barbara Streissand was awful. Nicole Scherzinger from the Pussycat dolls who is very pretty and suprisingly very talented vocally got like 5 minutes of face time. I think she deserved probably a 7 second solo because she is pretty and can sing. T-Pain has absolutely no talent anyone can use autotune. The rap section was completely stupid at one point they had LL reading his lines off a paper. Kanye’s part was dumb. Jamie Foxx’s ray charles impersonation and then he starts laughing I think he says had to do it. Honestly is that the same guy who was all serious in the begginning when he was introducing the piece.

But their was alot of great things in it. Jenifer Hudson is an amazing singer, the music she makes is garbage but if she could get someone to write her great songs she could go down as one of the all time greats. Im glad they included Josh Groban he is incredible. MJ and Janet was just amazing i smile everytime i see that. Celine Dion was Great. Adam Levine from Maroon 5 was great.Im happy they included the guy from the Fray i didnt think he gave a great vocal but they included some different genres. Mary J Blige and Usher good singers who deserved to be there. I think Akon has one of the most unique voices he is like a natural autotune im glad he was there. I thought Wyclef singing We are the World in Haitian was pretty cool i think I would have given him more time in the middle and less time saying random phrases during and after the rap. Fergie is a good singer but she also did her lets go hype thing that they always do in the Black Eyed peas I would give her a phrase singing but cut the line of her talking. Jamie Foxx is a great singer and i appreciated when he was singing. I talked about the ray charles thing already. I thought Pink did a good job. And i am glad they incorporated Carlos Santana and Enrique iglesias. And the Lil Wayne thing i could take it or leave it. It didnt bother me and i didnt think it was good. I guess he might deserve a spot he has been iconic for the last 5 years has won grammys and has experimented with different genres.

I actually think the positives outweigh the negative. I enjoyed it alot but I understand that it kinda proves the stereotype that the music of our time is worse than the one before us because the original had all hall of famer singers and didnt have 3 minutes of crap in it. I think it is not a fair representation because their was a lot of talent that was not in the performance. I would have added Beyonce Mariah Carey, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jessica Simpson Justin Timberlake, Rascal Flats, maybe Ne-Yo, Bon Jovi, Elton John and maybe added in some of the old generation like Stevie, Lionel Richie and Smokey.

The Song had great intentions it raised alot of money for an important cause it served its purpose. I wish it would have been a little different but we cant change it.
