Painting Boats

Why You Should Only Use Specialist Boat Paint on Your Wooden Boat?
You may think that the paint you use on your wooden boat doesn’t really matter and that you could just dig out some old emulsion from the back of the garage, or the garden shed, and use that to save a little money. I mean, how different can boat paint be from normal everyday paint?
Well, you could do I suppose, but it wouldn’t be advisable and if you have gone to the effort of building your own boat, you wouldn’t want to let it go to waste because you scrimped on the boats finishing touches. Paying a little extra at this point, could save you a whole lot of time and energy later down the line.
So what are the differences and why should you buy specialist boat paint to use? Well, boat paint contains products that help it stand up to the conditions in which it is used. Think of it like this, paint make for the use on the walls in your house is not made to stand up against being constantly wet, or face the elements of harsh sunlight and fierce wind and rain on a daily basis, so why would it be suitable for your boat?
Marine paints are made with these environmental considerations in mind, so serve the purpose much better. This means that it will stand the test of time, therefore meaning less recoating and applications, which lets face it, can be a real hassle. If you make sure you get it right first time, it will mean less work and frustration than realizing you’ve made a mistake, stripping all that paint off and starting all over again!
Specialist marine boat paint will be created to withstand UV light from the sun and this helps to protect the wood as well. They are also designed to protect against the onset of rot, which can be a wooden boat owners worst nightmare and if you’ve ever had a problem with it, you’ll know exactly what a hassle it can be and that it’s something you’ll want to avoid at all costs.
If you knew you could help prevent this with something as simple as the right paint, you’d be sure to make sure you looked into it properly and carried out this simple step. Boat paint is not the only specialist product you’ll want to be using here either, and marine primer will be beneficial too. Plus to take it a stage further, using a barrier coat will add an extra level of defense, so be sure to look into these.
Using the correct combination of these things will not only help to protect and waterproof your wooden boat, but also keep your wooden boat finishing looking great for longer too.
