Painting Dog
Can somebody please explain to me the Joan Miro’s Painting of the dog barking at the moon?
His style of art confuses me! I’m not exactly sure what he is conveying. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could explain to me what he means by drawing the dog barking at the moon.

Well, Originally this painting was among a few others that were commissioned by a old french publication known as the Verve. The painting was immediately reproduced by way of lithographs and is considered Miro’s most well known masterpiece, at least in painting.
According to an interview with Miro, he was not like most surrealist of his time who were inspired by hallucinations, and or dreamscapes. He himself said that he was inspired by the media he was using itself. So, though this painting is quite ambiguous, it seems Miro’s intentions for this piece were for the viewer to be taken back by the media (oil paint), rather than the subject form or composition.
However, there en lies the problem. We will never know what is truly meant to be expressed by this painting because we cannot read his mind. Personally, I think that is what his purpose was. I.e. it seems as though he likes to confuse the viewer into perhaps forming there own opinion as to what the true meaning of it is.
Hope this helps, he was a clever and whimsical man, so as stated we will most likely never know 100%.
