Painting Lake
What was the name of the painting of a landscape with a woman painted over?
I couldn’t make the question as concise as it should be – I can’t find the name of this painting, I remember it was a landscape with a tree on the right overhanging a lake. When it was X-Rayed, there was a painting underneath, as many of Van Gogh’s works were revealed to have, but this one was not a separate painting, instead the woman was actually painted over to simply not be there anymore. Anyone have and idea?
I have to say I don’t recognise the particular one. However, artists often re-used canvases for economic reasons. When I worked at the National Gallery in London, works were routinely X-rayed, and there are many ‘doubles’, some by the same artist, some not.
