My large painting on stretched canvas is warped?
Any way of unwarping the frame? It is a bit twisted on a couple corners so it does not sit flat on the wall.
Several solutions,
1 Remove any wedges, re-wedge and test on the wall.
2 If that doesn’t do it, do as 1 but wet the reverse of the canvas if it was not primed or sealed on the
back.If the canvas was say 2 inches out put about 3 inch blocks under the opposite corners and weight down on a level floor with a pile of books on each corner, leave over night and remount on the wall to test.
3 Re-stretch on new stretchers being careful not to over tighten.
(If you use Acrylic paints there is little danger of cracking, however be careful with oil paints when re-stretching).
4 If the canvas was badly tensioned when first stretched and primed mount the canvas on a composite wood panel that is battened on the back,It can be stretched and stapled,or pinned. Clean up the sides, if painted, or re frame as required.
