When do oil bills start, and how long do people usually get them?
I live in suburban philadelphia where i rent a house…this is my first experience with dealing with the oil/heating bills which i know make utilities jump up in winter. i found today taht my landloard got billed for the first load of oil…i mean to me it seems early i’m nowhere close to putting the heat on or anything. so is that normal for it to be this early? how many months do people normally have the oil bills going?
Yeah, now is the time for the oil companies to start filling their customers tanks for winter. They will still get mobbed on the first frosty morning- which is hard to deal with as a delivery service.
The terms of your account will determine how often a bill comes. Some come only when you call (easy to let the tank go dry if you have to watch it). Some have year round scheduled automatic delivery (after a while they get a feel for how much you need and when). Some come every month or so, only during winter.
The cost of heating oil is likely to only go up, so think of the early bill as the cheap one.
If this is your first bill you should avoid a surprise by asking the landlord or oil company how often a refill was necessary in past years. You may be shocked to discover you’ll be filling up every 3 weeks for the next 4 months, or pleased to find you’ll only go through 2 tanks in a winter…
