Maintaining Your Oil Heating Tank
A lot of homes use oil as their source of heat. Using oil as your heat fuel means that you will need to have a large oil tank near your house which can be a fire hazard if not cared for or maintained correctly. Therefore, everybody with oil storage tanks should be vigilant by nature, and check the tanks regularly for any leaks. Oil tank leaks can also have a very detrimental effect on the environment, not to mention the fact that they can cost you a lot of money
At the end of the day, if you utilise oil as a heating source in your home, it is ultimately your responsibility to ensure the storage tanks are maintained in a good condition. If proper care is not taken of the storage tank, it can ultimately turn out to be very expensive for you.
Once you have decided that oil is the way to go in terms of heating your home, make sure the storage tanks are fitted by a competent professional. Once it is installed you should make sure that the heating company you use comes out once a year to check the tank for leaks and or damage. If it is then found that there is damage or issues with leaking, this should be rectified immediately. Make sure that you get a professional service to dispose of your old tank correctly.
If you do see any leaks or spillages it is imperative that you take the necessary steps to ensure your safety and the safety of those around you. Make sure the oil cannot ignite first, and then make contact with the heating company you use so that they can come and resolve the issue. You can attempt to limit any leaks by using old rags to plug the holes so that it can surpass them until the professionals arrive to deal with it. Once things have been sorted, dispose of the rags responsibly.
Taking the simple precautions will ensure the long life of the oil filled radiator.
