Seascape Painting

What do you think of my painting so far ? ?

So i decided to try to paint a seascape just for fun and i was wondering what people think so far , any adjustments i should make to it , or is it too messed up ?

Oh, my such thick brush strokes.

Ok first of all, does it have to be so heavy looking? I mean the way you have the paint on already makes me think that the paints an inch thick. Have you thinned it out with a gloss medium? Works much better that way and much smoother as well.

Second, you don’t need to add the shine off the sky on the water until a later step, get the water done first best as you can!
If you need help learning a few techniques, find some Bob Ross videos of him painting. Those will help in an instant!

Third, give the cat some layers when you paint him/her.
I would say, Paint it all one color first with a thin color of dark blue or dark red. Even though your cat is not that color, it will help to add a contrast for the very top layer. Then you begin to add more layers of your cat’s real color but in a variety of shades. Cats are not just one color, their fur has about 3 different colors on each strand. Keep doing these layers, adding more and more detail as you go.

Fourth, try a lighter shade of blue now over the whole water part, it will merge the scene together and hopefully add some distinction to the waves as well. It doesn’t have to be thick, just a thinned layer of blue over the water will do.

I know you say you will probably turn it impressionistic but go and look at some impressionist artists before going any further. Look to see how they portray their subjects and see if that helps any further at all.
