Three Ways to Shoot Portrait Photographs
The invention of cameras herald a brand new way of taking portraits. Portraits used to be carried out through the process of painting and could mean excruciating hours of posing in front of a painter. Commonly, only the rich could get excellent portraitures for it is only them who had the finances to pay up excellent painters. But this was all in the past.
Nowadays, cameras are very common gadgets that people own. They can range from good-quality point-and-shoot cameras to high-tech gears like what the professionals use. Because of these equipment and devices, it becomes very easy for people to have portrait photographs of themselves.
Portrait photography is not a simple art. People can take self-portraits of their own but if they lack the necessary skills and training, even the ownership of a very expensive professional camera will not do an excellent job. Only fully-trained and dedicated photographers will be able to produce works of arts from photographs that can parallel what accomplished painters are capable of doing in the past.
There are many types to portrait photography. These can include solo portraits, family portraits and even company-large group portraits. Apart from these, there are also portraits that are only dedicated to pregnant mothers (or the so-called maternity portraits), to babies and children and to high school graduating students for their senior portraits. No matter which type, according to Portrait Photographer Austin, there are three ways to shoot these portrait photographs.
These three ways include close-up shots, upper body shots and environmental shots. Although there are different ways to capture the photographs, one thing is an absolute certain. These techniques are used to capture the essence of a person.
Close-up shots, otherwise known as facial shots, take images that frame the head and the shoulders. The emphasis is more on the facial expression and in capturing the emotions of the subject. These can also be called beauty-shots that are often commissioned by models for their portfolio.
Upper body shots are referred to as mid-range shots. The images taken here are of less personal in nature and are more appropriate in conveying information. These are usually the shots used when capturing portraits for events such as graduations, debuts and senior portraits.
Environmental shots are shots that place the subject in an area or place that matters to him. Images are captured in the subject’s office or place of business. This can also include photographs taken wherein the subject is undertaking his favorite sport or hobby.
